College Writing, Journalism I, and
Wind-Up, the SJHS news magazine

Thank you for visiting this website. I teach College Writing and advise the Wind-Up, our school news magazine.  I also teach Journalism 1, a single semester course offered first semester only, which is the prerequisite for being on the Wind-Up staff.

I teach only in the afternoon, and my current schedule is as follows:

4th Hour 11:55-12:55 Wind-Up/Journalism 2
Pub Lab--Room 212/218
5th Hour 1:00- 2:00 Wind-Up/Journalism 2
Pub Lab--Room 212/218
6th Hour 2:05- 3:05 College Writing Room 210

The best way to reach me is the e-mail address above.

In addition to teaching here at St. Joseph High School, I am a co-director of the Third Coast Writing Project at Western Michigan University. Third Coast is a site of the National Writing Project, a network of educators dedicated to increasing “student achievement by improving the teaching of writing and improving learning in the nation’s schools” (NWP web site).

I am a writer myself and have published poetry, professional articles, essays and other work in The Quarterly, Language Arts Journal of Michigan, Grassroots Review, Breakthroughs, and other publications and co-edited the book Home and Other Places. I also write an Opinion Maker column periodically for the Herald-Palladium.

My husband and I live in Benton Harbor and have three grown children and one granddaughter, Fiona.
Current favorite book: The Red Skirt: Memoirs of an Ex Nun by Patricia O'Donnell-Gibson.
