Mr. Engleman came to the St. Joseph Public Schools fourteen years ago after attending Western Michigan University, graduating in 1997 with his Bachelors of Music, cum laude and beginning his career in education with the Kalamazoo Public Schools. Over the course of the next several years, he earned a second degree from Western, a Masters of Educational Leadership, while teaching instrumental music to St. Joseph students spanning all grade and skill levels. He conducts the SJHS Marching Band, Symphonic Band and the Upton Middle School bands.
Mr. Engleman’s professional affiliations and offices have included service as the Vice-President and President of the St. Joseph Education Association, Member Emeritus chairperson for the Southwest Michigan Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA, District VI) as well as Vice President of Marching Activities, Vice President of Jazz Activities, Teacher of the Year Chairperson and Treasurer for MSBOA. For fun, Mr. Engleman rides his motorcycle, plays trumpet and co-directs the Lake Effect Big Band, golfs and spends time with family and friends.
