Welcome Back to School!
The 2014-2015 school year is going to be filled with new learning opportunities for all of us!
The staff and I are committed to creating a supportive environment which allows all students to learner at high levels. Together, with our parents as partners, we are working to grow our students academically, socially, and emotionally. The generous support of our Parent-Teacher Organization and St. Joseph Public Schools Foundation has helped to ensure a robust learning experience for our students - complete with 21st century learning tools and web-based access to learning supports/materials at home.
St. Joseph Public Schools' commitment to high quality instruction continues this school year. Updated math materials have been purchased to ensure our alignment to the Common Core State Standards, and various aspects of our English Language Arts curriculum materials have been revisited over the summer. The teachers and I have focused our learning this summer around collaboration for learning, small group instruction models, and how to increase student engagement toward our goal of closing the achievement gap for our students. We can hardly wait to welcome our students back!
I look forward to our continued partnership in your child's education. Four great ways to stay involved this year:
Designated learning time every night. Establishing clear home expectations and routines for homework, nightly reading, and self-directed learning activities helps to ensure a terrific school year. With busy fall sports schedules this can bedifficult, but starting the year out right will make learning a priority all year long.
Prioritize family time. Set aside time each week for family fun that's focused on relationship building, communication and well being. Happy and healthy learners are easier to grow.
Attend PTO meetings and events. These special networking opportunities provide support for you as parents.
