(ST, JOSEPH, MI) -- Rick Dyer, Vice President of the St. Joseph Public Schools Board of Education, announced his resignation at this evening’s regular board meeting.
After more than seven years of selfless service, Rick Dyer is stepping down from the school board, leaving behind a legacy defined by an unwavering commitment to the district. Since first taking his seat, Mr. Dyer has navigated the complexities of educational policy with a rare blend of pragmatism and empathy, always prioritizing the needs of our students and staff.
“My tenure on the school board has been personally rewarding and has given me an enormous appreciation and respect for my fellow board members, our administrative staff, our educators, our coaches, and our support staff. St. Joseph is not a highly rated district by accident—it is because of these people, and their impact is reflected in the successes and accomplishments of our students. Relocating outside of district boundaries requires my resignation, but it does not diminish my commitment to the district that educated me. I am a proud St. Joseph alumni and will always be ‘maize and blue’,” Dyer said in a statement.
In response to Dyer’s resignation, Superintendent Kristen Bawks expressed gratitude for his leadership: “Vice President Dyer is a tireless champion for public schools and a devoted advocate for the students we serve. We deeply value his many contributions to St. Joseph Public Schools.”
“We are eternally grateful to Rick for the time he committed to the Board of Education. With his departure, we look forward to the steadfast leadership he will provide as president of the Maize and Blue Athletic Fund,” stated Board President Kerry M. Wright II.
A search for Dyer’s replacement will be conducted in accordance with district policies. Qualified and interested applicants are invited to submit a notice of their interest, in writing, to the Board Secretary, Amy Marohn. Letters of interest will be accepted until Friday, May 22, 2026, at our district office (2580 S. Cleveland Ave.) or by email at amarohn@sjschools.org.
The Board of Education remains committed to its mission of educating each student through rigorous, relevant, and engaging instruction within a supportive learning environment.
